As per a statement under the centrally sponsored VAMBAY scheme a cash subsidy of Rs 45000 is to be given to each boatman for construction of dwelling units who have been dislocated from river Jhelum, water bodies and city channels.  These beneficiaries have already been provided plots by SDA free of cost at Boatmen Colony Bemina, Noorbagh Boatmen Colony and Sumerbugh Boatmen Colony.

Around 646 boatmen are to be initially covered under the scheme involving a subsidy component of Rs 2.91 crore.
