At least two CRPF personnel are reported critically injured in a militant attack reported from Awneera village on a visiting lawmaker. The village, not far away from Bejbehara where a cop was murdered during the day today, is undergoing a cordon and search operation.

Reports confirmed by police said ruling party’s MLC Khursheed Ahmad Ganai visited his party workers in Awneera village. As he got into a house, the militants attacked his security detail. In instant firing from different sides, at least two CRPF men are reported injured.

Within minutes after the attack, the local police have driven to the place. The area is being searched right now, police said.

The attack came within hours after militants gunned down a police man in Bejbehara. Awneera is part of the same belt and is around 6 kms from Bejbehara. Details of the attacks are still awaited. No militant outfit has staked the claim for the attack on Ganai, so far. Ganai unsuccessfully contested the last assembly election.

Reports from the area, however, claimed that one of the CRPF man injured in the attack died on the spot and another was somehow rushed to Zainpora hospital where he breathed his last. Police is yet to confirm this report.
