With no progress in government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, right wing Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has started its “groundwork” in South Kashmir’s Islamabad district.
Mohammad Rafiq Wani, who has been nominated for the post of District President Islamabad, said, “we have started our work to develop roots in valley.” “We are trying our best to make sure that we reach to people and convey them our message.”
Party held number of functions in the South Kashmir belt and have asked workers to “ensure growth in numbers”.
BJP ruled J&K in coalition with Peoples Democratic Party for ten months since March Ist 2015 up to January 07, 2016-the day when former CM and PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed breathed his last in AIIMS at New Delhi.
Post death of Mufti, there has been no indication of government formation in state after PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti asked BJP led Union government to announce economic and political CBM’s on J&K.
On Monday, number of workers from other parties joined BJP in a function that was held at Dooru Islamabad. “The party is attracting those workers who are dissatisfied with other parties and can be alarming,” said a local.
However, BJP politicians renouncing that it is “alarming situation” said, “our party is better than other parties.”
The Islamabad seat is lying vacant in state legislature after the death of Mufti and state is under governor’s rule since January 09.
“We are better than other parties and we have one agenda, that is welfare of common masses,” said Sofi Yousuf, MLC from South Kashmir.
