The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Wednesday has given its approval for four laning of Ramban-Banihal and Udhampur-Ramban section of Jammu-Srinagar Highway – 1A (now NH-44). With approximate length of 72.17 Kms, the total cost of two projects is estimated to be Rs 3382.66 .

Approved in Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode, the work will be under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase-II.

The details suggest that the Ramban-Banihal project’s estimated cost is to be Rs. 1623.98 crore including the cost of land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation and other pre-construction activities. The total length of the road will be approximately 32.10 kms.

While the he cost of Udhampur-Ramban section is estimated to be Rs. 1758.68 crore including cost of land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation and other pre-construction activities. The total length of the road will be approximately 40.07kms.

This step is said to expedite the implementation of six sub-projects in the State of Jammu & Kashmir under NHDP Phase-II. The officials privy to development said, “implementation of these projects would provide all-weather-connectivity from Jammu to the Kashmir valley. It will also reduce journey time from Jammu to Srinagar and strategic border areas in the State.”

“ Moreover, implementation of the project would result in development of basic infrastructure in the region which would ultimately lead to overall economic development of the regions of the State,” they added.

    But what about district Baramulla , where vehicular movement on national high way is increasing tremendously and road jams have become the routine of the day. Please pay attention towards the road widening in Baramulla…
