Ab Aziz, a witness to carnage of Muslims of Jammu in 1947, is no more. He was 98 and breathed his last in Jammu on Sunday.

He was born at Kilhotran village in Gondu Tehsil near Thatri ahead of Doda on Kishtwar road.

He was witness to massacre of Muslims in Jammu in 1947 and had lost his daughter to communal killers in which his hand was also damaged.

A known philanthropist, Aziz lived in Gogjibagh area in Srinagar where he served as principal of MP School in 1956, 57 and later worked as principal SP College. A dedicated and honest teacher, he rose to become registrar of University of Kashmir, a top job he relinquished in 1966.

His father died in 1960 and mother four years later. He had three brothers: Nizam ud Din, Gh Qadir Bhat.

He is survived by three sons and three daughters. His son, Javid Ahmad, is first Muslim commercial pilot of Kashmir. Another son, Altaf Ahmad, retired as executive engineer and third son is a doctor.

Circa 1947: When Pakistan was created in what is known as partition of Indian sub-continent, around five lakh Muslims in Jammu were massacred by autocratic Dogra forces.
