Scores of people on Thursday took out a protest rally in Old Srinagar towards Martyrs graveyard at Eidgah.

The united resistance leadership had asked people to march towards Martyrs graveyard at Eidgah to pay tributes to slain Hurriyat leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz.

The program given by joint resistance leaders read:

Ijtimayiee Fateh Khawani for Shaheed Sheikh Abdul Aziz at Mazar-e-Shohada Srinagar; a poster letter asking pro-India politicians and their workers including Panchs and Sarpanchs to resign from their parties and positions to be pasted on the gates of their homes.

To foil people from assembling in the Mazar-e-Shohada, all roads leading to Eidgah, Srinagar were sealed.

Eye witnesses said that Hurriyat Conference (m) leader Masroor Abbas Ansari took out a protest march from Nawakadal.

Soon, the witnesses said, forces intercepted it and tear gassed the procession triggering minor clashes.

Shiekh Abdul Aziz was killed by forces in 20o8, August 11, when a caravan of buses carrying people from this side of LoC to Uri who tried to cross Kaman-Aman Setu bridge but were stopped by forces.

Mirwaiz who tried to take out rally from his Nigeen residence was arrested and lodged at Nigeen police station.

“Mirwaiz sahab tried to take out a peaceful rally but forces arrested him,” Hurriyat Conference (m) media advisor Adv Shahid-ul-Islam told Kashmir Life.
