Delhi suffering from arrogance of power: Geelani

Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani on Saturday said that Delhi is suffering from the arrogance of power and is using an imperialistic attitude in Jammu and Kashmir to crush our movement of the right to self-determination.

“Since 1947, our nation has rendered unparalleled sacrifices, thousands were caged and brutally tortured, properties worth billions razed to the ground and looted, and sexual assault and rape used as a war weapon. But Delhi has not been able to suppress our emotions with this brutality,” Geelani according to a statement said while telephonically addressing people who had gathered to mourn the killing of slain militant Shabir Ahmad Dar of Samboora, at Pulwama.

Paying rich tributes to Shabir, Geelani said, “Our youth lay their lives to end the age-old slavery of their nation and for the right to self-determination.” He reiterated his pledge to take the ongoing movement to its logical end.

“We will never allow anybody to barter with the precious blood of martyrs,” he said, adding, “We need to be aware of this and we are duty-bound to safeguard their sacrifices and should desist from such activities which prove harmful for our movement.”

Stressing upon the people in general and youth in particular, Geelani said, “We need to strengthen our faith and as a nation, we need to be optimistic and by the grace of Almighty Allah, we will Insha Allah get freedom.”

Meanwhile, a delegation from Pulwama called on Syed Ali Geelani a couple of days back and narrated the “inhuman and barbaric” attitude of administration, a spokesperson of APHC (G) said in a statement.

“They (delegation) said that 5 youth killed on the pretext of being foreign militants, were local youth, Abdul Rashid Lone, Farooq Ahmad Bajran and Bilal Ahmad Dar respectively from Kangan Pulwama, Pehlipora Kellar Shopian and Brazloo Shopian. The DNA test also certified our claim, but the government is behaving as monstrous rogues who disrespect and mutilate the dead bodies also,” the spokesperson quoted the delegation as having said.

He said the just demand of returning the mortal remains of their dear ones has been turned down due to the reasons are best known to them (authorities).

“Hurriyat chairman heard their sad and pathetic story patiently, and while addressing them, he said that these are the ill efforts of slavery and barbarism seems to have no end. They are afraid of the dead ones and fear that these lifeless bodies may fuel the hatred and aggression against the Delhi,” the spokesperson quoted Geelani as having said, adding, “One feels pity over such behaviour of the rulers.”

Geelani appealed the international human rights organizations to “at least acknowledge these shameful acts by India”.

Meanwhile, Geelani said that slapping a sedition case against two Kashmiri students of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is inhuman and unjustified.

“Offering Nimaz-e-Jinaza in absentia for a person who was a brilliant student of this institution is no way a crime to be punished for,” Hurriyat (G) chairman said, adding, “Those claiming to be champions of freedom of expression forget their own rhetoric when it comes to muslims and Kashmiris.”

Geelani asked Delhi that “how many voices can you stop; how many minds you will put behind bars and how many freedom loving people will you crush to death?”

“Freedom movements never die down by these cowardly acts and as soon as you accept the reality, whole humanity will have a sigh of relief,” he said.
