Srinagar

National Conference President and Union Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah Thursday  arrived in valley for a short visit and met party’s General Secretary Sheikh Nazir Ahmad. The senior Abdullah flew back to Delhi in the evening.

According to party sources, the NC President met Sheikh Nazir Ahmad in Srinagar to discuss the prevalent situation in the valley. “During the meeting which lasted for one and a half hours, the leaders also discussed certain important issues relating to the party”, the sources added.

The meeting is believed to be of significance in wake of the situation prevailing in the state in the aftermath of hanging of Muhammad Afzal Guru. Recent outburst of the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the state assembly and speculations on his possible resignation are also being seen as a possible reason for the senior Abdullah’s visit.

The party is believed to be contemplating a comprehensive strategy for forwarding its demands of revocation of AFSPA and restoration of autonomy, with an eye on the 2014 assembly elections

  1. One of my friends was in the same aircraft that Dr Abdullah flew in the morning to Srinagar. He was surprised to see Dr Abdullah had boarded the GoAir aircraft well before the passengers started boarding. Sitting in 1C seat, Dr Abdulah was visibly upset. He had closed his eyes and did not talk to any passenger. He used to talk to people but he did not talk to anybody.
