SRINAGAR: A driver was reported dead but it is not a road accident. He was electrocuted to death as his conductor somehow survived with injuries.
The driver was identified as Waheed Ahmad Lone, 35, a resident of Zaloora. The survivor also from the same village was identified as Gulzar Ahmad Lone.
Details are sketchy but enough to understand the tragedy that many people witnessed on Monday morning somewhere near Gund Brath in Sopore.
The truck was moving when another vehicle came from the opposite direction. In order to make way for the other vehicle, the truck moved backwards and it was then when its body touched the low lying high tension power transmission line. The driver died instantly.
Another version is that the wire fell over the truck. The injured conductor was driven to the sub-district hospital at Sopore where he is being treated for his burn injuries. There was another person in the truck, in addition to the conductor, who had a miraculous escape. Yet another version is that the trucker took an interior route to avoid the congested road.
Police, reports said, have registered a case. Police will investigate the case and then only make a comment.
