SRINAGAR: Kashmir’s prominent ENT specialist Dr Sheikh Abdul Ahad is no more. He died in SKIMS where he was admitted on Monday. He was 74.

Dr Ahad, sources close to him said, was having a prostate issue for a long time. Early last month, a crisis was detected in his duodenum. It quickly spread some infection in the body and the noted doctor was admitted to SKIMS for septicemia.

Details said that SKIMS doctors conducted an operation upon him a few days back. He had started recovering and was better on Wednesday. However, his conditioned deteriorated and he was transferred to a ventilator. He breathed his last at around 8 pm.

Dr Ahad is survived by his wife, a homemaker, and three sons. Sheikh Nasir, eldest of his three sons is a businessman, Sheikh Yasir is an engineer and Sheikh Imran, the youngest of the three is orthopaedic.

Family sources said the funeral prayers of Dr Ahad are scheduled at 12 noon at Seloo, Sopore, his ancestral village. He will be laid to rest there.

Dr Ahad was a treating doctor till a fortnight ago. He would see patients at Modern Hospital. As the news of his death reached the hospital, it led to a pall of gloom. Dr Ahad had joined the private hospital after his retirement. He had a long inning in the Government Medical Colege Srinagar.
