One soldier was killed while a colonel was injured so far as a group of heavily armed fidayeens attacked army camp near Line of Control (LoC) at Tanghdar in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday morning.

Official sources told Srinagar based news gathering agency GNS that a group of three to five militants barged inside the camp of 3/1 GR at around 6:00 am.

As per initial reports, a soldier, who is said to be a Junior Commissioned Officer, has been killed while a local employee, operating power generator inside the camp has been injured.

Sources said that three massive blasts were heard as oil dump inside the camp caught fire and later spread to nearby barrack gutting at least five of them so far.

The army has rushed special commandos who were air dropped near the site and are trying to control the situation, they said.

The militants are said to have taken position inside the JCO Mess and heavy exchange of fire is reportedly going on.

Sources further said that after initial massive firing there was a lull for sometime before heavy exchange of fire is resumed.
