Authorities on Tuesday suspended the mobile Internet service in parts of Handwara following a gunfight that left two militants dead.

The telecom companies were directed to snap the Internet services in Handwara parts, a news gatherer GNS reported.

Reports said that the district administration Kupwara has decided to suspend classwork today in GDC Handwara and all Higher Secondary Schools of Mawar and Langate zones as a precautionary measure.

An official said that two militants were killed in a gunfight with the forces in Galoora area of Handwara late last night.

He said that the gunfight began early morning as the army’s 30 RR, 92 bn CRPF, and SOG launched a cordon and search operation in Galoora area of Langate after receiving specific intelligence input about the presence of militants in the area.

The search operation turned into a gun battle as the hiding militants fired upon the search party of the forces who retaliated and in the ensuing gunfight, two militants were killed.
