The gunfight which started on Wednesday early morning in Islamabad town ended with the killing of two militants, however, the search operation is still on in the area.

An official said that two militants identified as Bilal Ahmed from Khudwani area of Kulgam district and Abid Hussain Bhat, son of Wali Bhat, a resident of Suzan Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir were killed during an encounter in Mehman Mohalla in Islamabad town. The searches in the area are still on.

According to an official Abid Hussain Bhat, had joined the militancy on July 1, 2018,” both the killed militants were affiliated with Let outfit,” he said.

Earlier, an official said that encounter started after a joint team of army’s 1 Rashtriya Rifles, SOG and CRPF laid a siege at Mehmaan Mohalla in Lal Chowk. The cordon-and-search operation was launched in the area since midnight today.

Locals of the area said that heavy firing and blast like sounds are being heard since 4:00 am which created panic in the entire Lal Chowk area of the southern district.

As the searches were intensified in the area which is very congested, the militants fired upon the forces party triggering off an encounter, he said.

Meanwhile, train and internet services in the area have also been suspended.
