Hurriyat (G) Conference chairman, Syed Ali Geelani on Sunday in a statement strongly condemned the inhuman treatment meted to the Kashmiri prisoners in Tihar jail. Commenting on the information that Pakistani prisoners lodged in central jail Tihar were taken out of their barks in the midnight and physically manhandled and ruthlessly beaten, a few of them sustained serious injuries.
The spokesman while condemning this “brutality” said that this is a gross violation of national and International laws which compel every country to abide by these rules and regulations to ensure the safety of every individual under custody.
Hurriyat said that these helpless people in jails mostly are political prisoners qualifying for more human and civilized behavior from their captives—but are brazenly and cunningly subjected to inhuman treatment.
Hurriyat also condemned the raid on the incarcerated elder son of Syed Salah-ud-din a few days back and termed it as vandalism and hooliganism by men in authority. Hurriyat said that harassing the families of jailed people is an old tactic of “Indian imperialistic mindset” by which they force the pro-freedom people to submission.
Hurriyat further said that pro-freedom leaders Shabir Ahmad Shah, Dr. G. M. Bhat, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Raja Mehraj-ud-din Kalwal, Shahid-ul-Islam, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Syed Shahid Yousuf, Syed Shakeel Ahmad, Zahoor Ahmad Watali despite court orders have not been released. Hurriyat said that authorities themselves tarnish the image and stature of its own judiciary by not respecting their verdict, but these tactics will not deter us from pursuing our goal of freedom.
Meanwhile, Geelani expressed a deep shock over the tragic Ramban accident that killed almost 20 people and many more sustained injuries.
He said although death has a fixed date and time and every life has to perish, but such tragedies are unfortunate and shocking. He prayed for eternal peace of departed souls and wished the injured, speedy recovery. He also condoles to the bereaved families for their irreparable loss.
