Four militants killed in a gunfight with the counter-insurgent forces in Khur Batpora of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district were affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen.

An official said that the slain militants have been identified as Shahid Sadiq Malik son of Mohammad Sadiq a resident of Khull DH Pora, Mohammad Ashraf Malik @Sadam son of Bashir Ahmad Malik a resident of Arwani district Anantnag, Waqar Farooq Itoo son of Farooq Ahmad Itooa resident of Hanan Chawalgam a resident of DH Pora and Aijaz Ahmad Malik son of Mohammad Iqbal Malik a resident of Chimmer DH Pora.

An official said that on a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by police and army in Khur Batpora village.

“This operation based on a credible police input was launched this morning,” he said.

“During the search operation, the hiding militants fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter,” said the spokesman.

“In the ensuing encounter four militants were killed and bodies have been retrieved from the site of encounter.

Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site of encounter, he added.
