The upper house of Jammu and Kashmir Legislature Wednesday witnessed uproar over the statement of VHP leader Sadhvi Prachi who yesterday had said that “it was time to make India free of Muslims”.

As soon as the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council resumed its business early today, National Conference MLC Dr Shahnaz Ganaie raised the issue in the house and demanded condemnation of the statement.

Dr Shahnaz Ganaie said, “Muslims are part of the India and the house should condemn the statement which aimed to divide the country by targeting a particular community.”

The BJP members present in the house were on their toes objecting to NC MLC for raising the issue that “doesn’t have any concern with the house”. There were heated arguments between the Dr Shahnaz Ganaie and the BJP MLCs over the issue.

As the uproar continued, NC’s Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo, Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, Dr Bashir Veeri along with Congress’ Naresh Gupta and others also supported Dr Shahnaz Ganaie’s demand.

“It (Sadhvi Prachi Statement) can’t be tolerated—we condemn it,” said Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo.

Reacting to the concern of the National Conference and Congress MLC’s, Government spokesperson and Education Minister Naeem Akhtar said, “we should not provoke things of divisive nature. Muslims are part of the India and no one can isolate them from it.”

While talking to Kashmir Life, Dr Shahnaz Ganaie said, “the statement of Sadhvi Prachi is condemnable.” She added that she will bring resolution in the Legislative Council against it.
