A leopard that had strayed close to residential areas in Zangali area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district was captured by the wildlife authorities on Friday.

A team of the wildlife department captured the wild animal on Friday morning, officials said.

The leopard had killed eight horses, dozens of sheep and other domestic animals in recent past.

“We received several complaints from the local residents about the presence of the leopard. The animal was on the prowl in Zangali, Kasharia and its adjoining areas since the last couple of months.”

The captured animal was tranquillized and taken to Baramulla control room, the official said.

Following the recent heavy snowfall in the northern district, the wild animals, especially leopards have been entering several habitations, triggering fear among the villagers. (GNS)
