Panic gripped in Quoil hamlet of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district when a police party resorted to aerial firing to foil an alleged bid of militants to attack them.

Police sources told CNS that four to five militants appeared in Quoil village where a police post is present to guard the properties of minority community.

Sources said that before the militants could attack the post, policemen fired upon them who fled from the spot in a jiffy leaving behind a riffle that was seized by policemen.

Police sources said that the militants left the same Insas riffle that was snatched by them from a CRPF man a few days before at Nai Basti Tral.

“We are trying to verify whether it is the same riffle that was snatched by militants in Tral,” Superintendent of Police Pulwama Amit Kumar told CNS that policemen foiled the militant attack and forced them to retreat from the Quoil village.

Reports said that Army and SOG cordoned off the area and launched search operation to flush out the militants.
