In a very interesting development, ruling National Conference (NC) on Tuesday observed the 23rd death anniversary of late Moulvi Mohammad Farooq and late Hurriyat leader Khawja Abdul Gani Lone. The rural development minister of ruling NC Ali Mohammad Sagar organized a function at his residence which was attended by the local NC workers and a couple of lawmakers.

Sources close to Rural development minister Ali Mohammad Sagar confirmed to Kashmir Life that NC had organized a function to observe the death anniversary of late Mirwaiz and late Lone. “Late Mirwaiz Moulvi was a visionary so we paid him tributes,” They said.

But, Hurriyat Conference led by Mirwaiz finds itself on a tricky wicket. “This reveals the situation we live in, we are being arrested and restricted by a regime who organizes and observes the anniversaries of our leaders. We fail to understand what to do in such kind of a situation,” a Hurriyat (M) leader told KL on the condition of anonymity.

Late Moulvi Mohammad Farooq was the father of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, chairman of his faction of Hurriyat conference while as late Lone was the father of Bilal Gani Lone, an executive leader of the same faction of separatist amalgam.

The said faction was stopped to organize any function for the third consecutive year. Police had a couple of days before put Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest and was a day before officially conveyed that government will not allow him or his party to organize any rally or march to observe the day.
