While admitting that the much-touted “North Pole-South Pole” coalition government isn’t having a smooth run, PM Narendra Modi admitted problems—for the first time in PDP-BJP alliance government in Jammu and Kashmir.
“These are teething troubles,” he said in an interview. “We need to have patience. I myself and my party have made our stand very clear that any lenience towards anti-national elements and terrorists will not be acceptable.”
However, Mod said, we should not forget the larger picture.
“The alliance in Jammu and Kashmir has the potential to resolve one of our most difficult national problems through people’s participation and good governance.”
The PDP faced flak from the opposition parties over the release Kashmir separatist leader Masarat Alam on March 7 from jail despite protests by its ally BJP, which also issued an ultimatum to Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s party to mend its ways. “Alam was released without informing or consulting the Centre,” he said.
