Minister of State for Health, Shabir Ahmad Khan has said that historical Mughal road opened a new vista of tourism promotion in twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri adding that in near future these districts would become hub of tourism activities.

Addressing a public meeting today at Lah, Thanamandi, the Minister has said that an amount of over Rs 20 crore was being incurred on creation of various infrastructure facilities at potential tourism spots along the Mughal road in these districts with special focus on promotion of eco-tourism in the area.

As per a statement the Minister has said that Lah Wali Bowli would be developed as a tourist resort, for the purpose a project report of Rs 85 lakh has been prepared for approval of funds under State plan this year. He has said in this regard 42 kanals of land will be acquired and for the purpose Rs 28 lakh has already been released by the government.

The Health Minister has said that flagship programmes like NRHM, MGNREGA, RGGVY, PMGSY, SSA and RAMSA have helped upgradation of infrastructure facilities besides employment generation in the State especially in rural and hilly areas. He has said, “Rs 5 crore would be utilized in execution of various works in Thanamandi block under MGNREGA during current financial year, which will provide employment to the people of the area.” He has also said the construction work of Primary Health Center building, Lah was being completed at a cost of Rs 1.84 crore this year adding that all possible diagnostic facilities with adequate staff would be ensured available in the health institutions in the area. He has said that construction of second stage of Green to Lal road would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs 1.17 crore and added that concerned executing agency has been directed to take up the work at the earliest for its time bound completion.

The Minister has also called upon the Panchs and Sarpanchs to deliver better role in the process of development in rural areas. “The government has empowered them to check the execution of different developmental projects for ensuring durable results for the benefit of common masses.” He asked them to ensure equal development of all the villages and there should be no injustice to any village or hamlet in this regard.

The Minister during his tour to his Constituency also inspected the pace of progress of several ongoing projects including Rs 1.84 crore PHC building Lah, Rs 1.48 crore Saj-Khokhar Malla road, Rs 2.01 crore Green to Lah road and Rs 25 lakh way site amenities at Behrote. He was apprised by the Officers of concerned executing agencies that so far Rs 4.27 crore have been incurred on the construction of these projects, of which Rs 2 crore expended on the completion of Green to Lah road while as Rs 1.62 crore incurred on the construction of PHC building Lah which is at final stage and would be handed over to the concerned authorities very soon.

The Minister has directed the concerned executing agencies for time bound completion of the ongoing projects and instructed Sectoral Officers for monitoring the execution of each project in the area with quality management and judicious use of funds.

  1. I am a tourist and I wish to take the mughal road to go to Srinagar, to try something new. Will You please tell me if there is any sumo or buses ferrying passenger to srinagar by mughal road??
    If yes, then from where? Rajouri, Poonch or Bafliaz???

    Kindly help, because i will be coming on 3rd of June 13.
