Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Sunday urged governor administration to expedite the process of disbursing compensation to orchardists, farmers who have suffered massive damages in the recent snowfall.

Governor Satya Pal Malik meeting Former finance minister and NC leader Abdul Rahim Rather on Saturday, November 11, 2018, at Jammu.

Senior NC leader and former finance minister Abdul Rahim Rather met governor Satya Pal Malik and apprised him about the exigencies that have risen after the recent ill-timed snowfall.

“I impressed upon the governor that the unprivileged and marginalized farmers are indebted to banks and that the recent snowfall have put them in a disposition where they cannot pay for amount overdue,” he said.

Rather apprised the governor about the mounting woes which the general public is undergoing in wake of the recent snowfall. “I apprised the governor about the exigencies that have floated up post snowfall in terms of erratic power supply, disturbed road connectivity and inconsistent water supply in the affected areas including Chare- e- Shareef,” he said.

The former minister brought to notice of the governor the gravity of the current developmental deficit and dysfunctionality of the administration in dealing with the situation.

Rather underscored the need of dialogue to embalm the disenchanted youth. “Every day we come to know through newspapers the unprecedented follies of former PDP-BJP government. The unprecedented corruption, nepotism and other ruthless policies of the former PDP-BJP led government have alarmed the youth and the need of the hour is to make amends to those wrong policies. The situation is overcast with the consequences of conflict. I urged for de-escalation in the current edgy situation and for initiating a genuine conciliatory process,” he said.

Rather said that J&K is peculiar owing to its history and topography and that the special needs of the state propensities for a long-term solution to the conflict.

Rather asked the governor to ensure early mitigation of the amassed problems of the farmers, orchardists and the general public as soon as possible. “I acquainted him of the need to engage with public besides meeting day to day problems and other developmental issues,” he said.
