A day after the all-girl band ‘Pragaash’ announced to quit music, the Jammu and Kashmir Police has filed a case to investigate and track down the online abusers.

Sources said the police have activated its cyber crime cell to track down Facebook  accounts of people who have posted the hate messages. At least, six persons have been identified and they are likely to be rounded up for questioning. However, police would take time to sift through the messages. Kashmir experts say that police would have to tread cautiously on the issue as it has potential to boomerang. “If police go on a spree of arrests, it can trigger a chain reactions and sometimes it is counterproductive,” said a police official.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has reportedly asked the police to speed up investigations and arrests are likely to be made in a few days.

A police spokesman said a case under Section 66 A of the IT Act and Section 506 RPC (Criminal Intimidation) has been registered in Rajbagh police station with regard to the hate messages posted on the Facebook page of the Pragaash band.
