All Parties Hurriyat Conference (m) Chairperson, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday said people of Kashmir and its resistance leadership were equally responsible for carrying forward the ongoing resistance struggle.

Addressing faithful before the Friday congregational prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar, Mirwaiz said, “history bears witness to the fact that the unarmed people of Kashmir had braved numerous hardships and difficulties to carry forward the resistance movement, which has given confidence and strength to the resistance leaders and now it was incumbent upon both the people and the leadership to jointly and responsibly take the movement to its logical conclusion.”

“Despite the fact that with each passing day the yoke of subjugation is getting tighter and tighter and the space for dissent is being shrunk by the aggressors and their local collaborators and agencies, peoples resilience and a strong will is proof of their involvement and commitment toward the movement and that the entire resistance leadership was thankful to the people for showing such steadfastness,” he said in his speech. “Now it was the responsibility of the resistance leadership to devise joint strategy and programmes to counter the oppression that the people of Kashmir were being subjected to by the successive governments and carry forward the resistance movement with all the verve and energy.”

The Hurriyat (m) chairperson said that in this regard the entire resistance leadership needed to unite for which the amalgam had called a joint meeting of the resistance leadership, religious scholars, civil society members including lawyers, students unions and trade bodies at Mirwaiz Manzil  Rajouri Kadal on the 18th of this month. “At the meeting, a committee had been framed to hold further discussions and receive feedback from all the participants of the meeting and also those who were not able to make it to the meeting due to the curbs imposed by the government,” he said.

Criticizing the government, Mirwaiz said, “it is the height of democratic dictatorship that civilians like Fayaz Ahmed Rather are slapped with Public Safety Act for simply leading the funeral prayers of a martyr!”

“Up till now, Kashmiris were attacked outside Jammu and Kashmir  in other parts of India but now thanks to the coalition, Kashmiri Muslims are attacked almost every day within their state, under a well-planned strategy be it in Jammu, Poonch, Rajouri, Udhampur where the RSS goons rule the roost with the complete support and patronage of local administration.” “Kashmiri truckers and travellers are attacked, beaten and their vehicles set ablaze in these regions while the government looks away.”

Mirwaiz slammed the government “for supporting elements bent upon damaging the Muslim majority character of the State”.
