Chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani  has again urged UN General Secretary Ban Ki Moon to resolve Kashmir dispute as per  UN resolutions.

“The said  resolutions form the legal and constitutional bases for  Kashmir dispute,” said Geelani. “The delay in providing this right to the people is neither abjuration to  right to self-determination nor in any way, their right to freedom can said to be has  lost,” he added.

Referring to the Kashmir  dispute as an old contention between the two countries, Geelani said that Pakistan and India were engaged in three wars over this and possibility of  armed confrontation and consequently the devastation  in future cannot be ruled out.

Geelani in his statement from New Delhi reiterated that in its historic resolution on January 05,1949 United Nations has supported the demand for self-determination for Kashmir and  has made it clear that the  people of Jammu and Kashmir  are  final authority.

“The security council has passed as many as eighteen resolutions assuring right to self-determination,” he said while stressing upon  them to honour the decision of people of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Though India has adopted the stubborn attitude but it does not mean that the right to self-determination has proved invalid nor it has in any way conveyed that it is now forbidden,” said Geelani.

“With every passing day the resolutions passed have turned to be more relevant and urge to make fall in a line  and to rule anybody without his consent is treated to be more improper and indecent,” he added.

Terming the attitude of India as an obstacle in its implementation, Geelani said that  it disapproves the claim of India to be a  great democracy and this approach will expose its claim too.

“Few states in India though  question the authority of confederation of India yet they lack the international sport so their claim cannot  be discussed  in any international floor,” said Geelani.

Syed Ali Geelani made an appeal to UN secretary general to take  cognizance of the gravity of the issue and added  the pending issue is biggest hurdle in political stability and the progress in Northern Asian region.

Warning India and Pakistan, Geelani made a reference of the horrified wars between the two countries and added if the problem is not addressed, nobody can say with confidence the future of the two countries.

Pertinent to mention, Geelani earlier termed UN as defunct organisation.

Meanwhile Hurriyat conference Wednesday said that it would organise a seminar on January 5, 2012 at Hyderpora  in which prominent speakers would speaker about,‘’ Dignified , Democratic, and lasting solution ….Right to self-determination. Senior pro-freedom leader and Gen secretary Tehreek e Hurriyat Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai would chair the  seminar and Geelani would deliver his address over telephone .The other pro freedom leaders and intellectuals, lawyers and columnists will also express their ideas.

  1. I think now Pakistan and India both wants an end to the violence and uncertainty in Kashmir. Both the countries should realize that this prolonged dispute is gaining them nothing but hindrance to the economic development in their respective regions.
