In the just released partial results of BA, BSc, BCom by the University of Kashmir, more than 70 percent of the students who had appeared for the third and final year have passed. The results of nearly one thousands students from different smaller streams is being notified separately within next one week, Controller Examination Abdus Salam Bhat said.
Bhat told Kashmir Life that out of 29293 students who appeared in all streams, 20640 qualified and were declared successful. It makes a pass percentage of 70.47 percent.
Of this lot, the number of arts students was 22739 of whom almost 67% candidates – 15210 were declared successful. There were only 3566 students from the science stream who had appeared for the examination for the final class of the three-year graduation course. Of them 3125 which is 88 percent were declared successful
Science is closely followed by the Commerce stream that had a total of 2988 candidates. Of them 2309 candidates making 78 percent were declared successful, Bhat said.
Prof Bhat refused to identify any of the candidates who bagged the top slot, either in the entire degree or in the smaller arts, science and commerce streams. “We have discarded the practice for last many years,” Bhat explained. “It is because the positions can alter once the revaluation takes place and cause unnecessary litigations and demoralization to the candidate.” He said the final tally on the positions would be aviliable officially within next 20 days. While he suggested the State Board of School Education should also the same practice – doing away with identifying toppers, Prof Bhat lacked a case in which a position holder might have changed his or status after re-evaluation.
