SRINAGAR

To promote affordable flatted accommodation and ensure economical land use, Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) has decided to construct around 500 flats in Bemina area of Srinagar. The decision was taken at a meeting of SDA officers presided over by Vice-Chairman, Mohammad Shafi Rather on Thursday.

The Vice-Chairman, along with the team of officers, later visited the two sites identified for construction of flats. These include Mini Housing Colony Bemina (opposite Hajj House) and adjacent to JK Bank Bemina where SDA has the sufficient land available for the purpose.

The Vice-Chairman expressed satisfaction over the locations identified for the construction of flats given the accessibility to JVC hospital, four-lane highway and upcoming Bus Terminal in Shalteng area. Further, a new satellite township is also coming up nearby on around 4500 kanals of land at Rakh-e-Gund Akshah.

The Vice-Chairman directed the engineering wing of SDA to immediately formulate the detailed project report in this connection so that the same would be put up to the Minister for Urban Development and Local Bodies, who is also the Chairman of SDA, for approval. The proposal would be later got ratified by the SDA Board.

It was decided in the meeting that in view of the paucity of land in Srinagar and given the sky-rocketing land prices, time has come for SDA to introduce the concept of flatted accommodation in and around the city. It was also decided that there would be two categories of flats including the one for high income group (HIG) and the other for low income group (LIG).

SDA would be approaching HUDCO for loaning facility for these projects and the Vice-Chairman also held preliminary discussions with senior HUDCO officers in this regard, who assured adequate funding for the project.

During his extensive tour of SDA assets today, the Vice-Chairman also visited the site of upcoming satellite township at Rakh-e-Gund Akshah, upcoming Bus Terminal at Shalteng, General Bus Stand Batamaloo, Sheikhbagh and SMG Parking lots and Sangarmaal City Centre.
