Urging the Government of India to exhibit strong will and political courage for repealing the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), the National Conference Thursday accused the central government of having surrendered before the army.

“The central government is helpless before the Army. They seem to have accepted defeat, though the GoI has many times shown a realization for the revocation of AFSPA. Because of the opposition from the Army, they don’t pay much attention towards it now”, said NC Additional General Secretary, Dr Mustafa Kamal while speaking to news agency KNS.

He urged the central government to show political courage before ‘it is too late’. “Chief Minster has many times warned centre that AFSPA, if left unattended, can prove to be a spark for a huge fire”, Kamal claimed.

Meanwhile, accusing the separatist leadership of adding fuel to fire, he said the separatists were trying to worsen the situation by instigating people for protests and strikes.

“Separatists instigate Kashmiri youth for violence. Whatever the cause may be, one thing is clear, they like violence just for the political mileage that they gain out of it”, NC Additional General Secretary Dr Mustafa Kamal told news agency KNS.
He blamed the separatist leadership for what he called ‘perpetual state of misery’. “Showing no concern towards poor and innocent people, the separatists are playing politics of ‘Hartal’ in Kashmir to keep people in perpetual state of misery”, Kamal said.

He said the responsibility of at least one lakh Kashmiris who were killed over last 20 years lies on the shoulders of separatist leaders.

“In the last two decades separatists have developed certain vested interests for running their shops by not allowing the situation to return to normalcy. Killing of innocent people was an outcome of the ‘dirty politics’ of separatist leaders, ”Kamal said adding “Separatists are never comfortable with peace and progress. And if someone is killed because of their activity they get a chance to put the whole blame on the shoulders of the Chief Minister and the state government. They don’t care for the problems of people instead they aggravate their miseries by fanning the fire of death and destruction”.

He said the separatists should fight through political and democratic meanse if they were sincere towards the welfare of Kashmiri people.

“Once separatists succeed in instigating few hundred or thousand people for coming on roads to protest, they start projecting that the whole population is up for violence, but reality is that majority of Kashmir population is only in favour of peace”, he added.

“We also fought against Maharaja Hari Singh for nearly 17 years but we fought through no violent ways, and also succeeded in our Mission. Had we chosen the path of violence whole of Kashmir would have got turned into ruins”.
