Stone pelting incidents took place in some parts of Srinagar, Shopian and Tangmarg areas. Police used tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters in Habbakadal area of the city. Minor stone pelting incidents also took place in Rambagh and Maisuma areas.
Ding dong battles rocked the Shirmal and Gagren areas of southern town of Shopian. Police sources said that they exhibited utmost restraint while chasing away the protesters.
Meanwhile windowpanes of ten to twelve vehicles were damaged by protesters in Tangmarg area were people took to streets.
People took to streets in Rajourikadal area of the city and raised anti India and pro-freedom slogans. The protesters tried to march towards the civil lines area but the heavy deployment of police did not allow them to move forward. The protesters later dispersed peacefully. However, later in the day protesters pelted stones on police and CRPF personnel and the clashes were going on when the reports last came in.
Tentions that were already on the rise since Sunday hit a new high on Tuesday due to a march called by a group of separatists to the residence of a Kashmiri student, who was found hanging in his hostel room in Hyderabad.
Authorities have deployed police and paramilitary personnel in large numbers in south Kashmir’s Pulwama town, the native area of Mudasir Kamran, 25 who was found hanging from the ceiling of his hostel room on March 2, to thwart any attempts by the separatists to assemble there, official sources said.
Police has sealed all roads leading to Parigam, the ancestral village of the deceased youth, who was pursuing PhD in English from the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad.
Shops, banks, petrol pumps and other business establishments remained closed due to the march called by Majlis Mashawarat, a separatist forum that came into being following the execution of Guru.
While most public transport remained off roads, private cars, cabs and autorickshaws continued to ply.
The separatist groups and family of the deceased youth have ruled out suicide.
