Violent protests erupted in Pulwama after the news reached the town that Mudassir Ahmad Malla has been found hanging in his hostel room in Hyderabad University.

A foreign Languages student, Mudassir was released just two days before for taking part in anti Afzal hanging demonstration. “One of the Mudassir’s professors and some other students were annoyed with him for taking part in anti Afzal hanging, he told us on phone that they had used some heated arguments against him, finally they got him arrested and after two days of his release we had a telephone call Saturday evening informing us about his death by hanging,” Ashiq Hussain Malla, the brother of Mudassir told Kashmir life on phone.

29-year-old Mudassir Ahmad Malla s/o Ghulam Qadir Malla, resident of Parigam Pulwama pursuing Ph.D in Foreign Languages in Hyderabad University, was found hanging in his hostel room Saturday evening.

The people in Pulwama town started shouting slogans against Hyderabad police Sunday morning. They were alleging that Mudassir was murdered by hanging because he took part in anti Afzal hanging protest demonstrations.

“Mudassir was hanged secretly the same way as Afzal was,” alleged Farooq, a neighbor of Mudassir.

However, according to Kashmir police sources it is not certain as yet, that what has happened to Mudassir, and is his death a murder or suicide?

The ding dong battles between police and protesters started in Pulwama. Police used tear smoke shells. The violent protests were going on when reports last came in.
