Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has asked all the heads of departments to prepare a comprehensive list of officers who were involved in ‘corrupt practices’ or had been rendered as ‘dead wood’ to summarily dismiss them from services or suggest other kind of action, whose offence in corruption was minor.
Local news gathrer KNS says it has learnt from reliable sources that government has asked the all the Commissioner Secretaries to prepare the lists as early as possible and submit it to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat for scrutiny followed by action.
“On Wednesday most of the cabinet ministers have issued instructions to their concerned Commissioner Secretaries to submit the list of HOD’s, Directors, MD’s ,KAS officers and including other tainted officer who are posted in Civil Secretariat and are involved in corruption for taking immediate action against them by the Government,” sources said.
They said that the action could include dismissal from services of the officers, who have completed their stipulated tenure in services and disciplinary action against the officers, who were yet to complete 20 years of service.
Meanwhile, sources said that in this regard the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Minister Chowdhary Zulfikar Ali on Wednesday chaired a meeting with the top officials and issued directives to them to prepare list of officers of doubtful integrity and undesirable officials in the department to root out corruption.
“The government will not bear the corrupt officials. There are reports that many officials are involved in the practices of corruption, the minister said and asked the officials to put in order a list of departments where corrupt practices are prevalent,” they said.
Rural Development Minister Abdul Haq Khan told KNS that the government will pay special attention towards removing corruption from all the departments by adopting a two-pronged strategy-process, re-engineering.
“In next couple of days all the anti corruption agencies would be asked to keep a discreet watch on their jurisdictions, followed by surprise checks to the departments,” he said.
Khan said that government will also direct all the heads of the departments to ensure implementation of Right to Information (RTI) Act in letter and spirit so that maximum information could be made available on the website to minimize the need for filing RTI applications by the citizens.
Meanwhile, sources also said that the government has decided that all the transfers and postings will now be governed by the proper transfer policy. “The government rules will be followed strictly while preparing the transfer policy under which officers of impeccable integrity and those known for efficiency (honest and efficient) would be given the most sensitive or important postings,” sources said.
They said that officers having good integrity might also be given important assignment involving public dealing whereas officers of doubtful integrity will not be posted to any sensitive assignment or those having public dealing, the sources said.
The same step was taken by NC govt; but failed because no DDO is ready to face the court as the dead wood will ultimately sue them in court to prove themselves right and the case will never come to the logical end . As such there is need for some concrete steps as done is developed countries or MNCs. If our Govt is really interested in removing this menace from the society it needs to constitute a task force of honest and Allah fearing officers who will take on spot action and show them the exit.
