Non-Kashmiri engineering students Friday post congregational prayers marched in National Institute of Technology (NIT) at Hazratbal here raising slogans “Hindustan Zindabad, Pakistan Murdabad”.

Reports and local students said that the non-local students smashed window glass panes and harassed the Kashmiri students.

Giving details, a Kashmir students who pleaded anonymity, said, “when West Indies crushed Indian cricket team in World Cup T2o semi-finals late Thursday evening, students celebrated win of West Indies team win.”

“The celebrations did not go well with non-local students and a verbal fight ensued, however, situation was under control,” the student said.

The students said, “after we finished our Friday prayers today, non-Kashmiri students took out a march in NIT campus damaging classroom infrastructure.” “They were shouting anti-Pakistan and pro-India slogans,” the students said.

The beleaguered students further alleged, “some Kashmiri students were roughed up by the non-locals and when a few teachers tried to intervene they too were harassed.”

As this report was being filed, the local students are holding a protest demonstration in-front of administrative block of NIT seeking action against the accused.

“You have some patience, we are diffusing the tension,” A M Bhat, deputy registrar NIT, told Kashmir Life.
