Jammu and Kashmir Heat Wave: Srinagar Records Hottest Day at 34.3°C

   

SRINAGAR: The new month has commenced with a heat wave in three stations of Kashmir, including Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, which recorded the hottest day of the season on Monday at 34.3°C.

Notably, Srinagar and Qazigund were hotter than Kolkata today, where the temperature settled at 31°C.

As per the details, Qazigund recorded a maximum temperature of 32.4°C, while Kokernag recorded a maximum temperature of 31.9°C.

The temperature in Kupwara, however, settled close to the heat wave temperature at 31.9°C. Pahalgam, a famous tourist destination, and Gulmarg, a famous ski resort, recorded 27.6°C and 24.4°C, respectively.

Meanwhile, all the Jammu stations recorded above normal temperatures. The details reveal that Jammu, the winter capital of the Union Territory, recorded 36.2°C, while Banihal recorded 31.0°C.

Batote, Katra, and Bhaderwah recorded maximum temperatures of 28.8°C, 34.0°C, and 30.8°C, respectively.

Moreover, Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, has predicted the possibility of rains and thundershowers at many places.

“There is a possibility of spells of rain and thundershowers at many places in the Jammu division towards late night and early morning, and spells of rain and thundershowers at a few places in the Kashmir division until July 03,” he said.

He added, “From July 4 to 5, there is a possibility of intermittent light to moderate rainfall at most places in JK, with heavy showers and rainfall at a few places. From July 6 to 7, intermittent light to moderate rainfall is expected at most places in J&K, with heavy showers and rainfall at a few places.”

Additionally, the weatherman has issued an advisory, saying that flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones are expected at a few vulnerable places.

Some low-lying areas may experience temporary waterlogging conditions, the advisory reads, adding that a few places may experience moderate thunderstorms and lightning—(KNO).
