Sources said that the party high command has summoned 20-25 leaders from J&K to New Delhi to evolve its strategy for the upcoming assembly elections in the Union Territory.

The party has already held similar sessions with the leadership of Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Haryana where the assembly elections are due later this year.

The polls are also expected to be held in Jammu & Kashmir this year as the Supreme Court had last year directed the Election Commission of India to complete the polls in the Union Territory before September 30.

Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, former party chief Rahul Gandhi, AICC general secretary K C Venugopal and other top leaders of the party are expected to be part of the deliberations with leadership from J&K.

According to sources, the meeting would discuss ways to strengthen the party in Jammu & Kashmir where it has faced several setbacks after 2014.

In the recent Lok Sabha, Congress lost both Lok Sabha seats it contested in Jammu & Kashmir. It managed to lead only in seven assembly segments in these two seats—(KNO)
