EPG Celebrates World Environment Day at Greenland College

   

SRINAGAR: The Environmental Policy Group ( EPG) celebrated the World Environment Day 2024 at Greenland Paramedical and Nursing College, Hawal in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.

As per the statement, a large number of students and reputed environmentalists from various districts participated in the event. The noted social and environmental activist Zareef Ahmad zareef was the Chief Guest whereas the EPG Convenor Faiz Bakshi conducted the event.

Prominent civil society members and activists who participated in the event included Javed Ahmad Tenga from the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI), Nadeem Qadri, co-founder of EPG and Amicus Currie Advocate, Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat, an RTI and social activist, Er Ajaz Rasool, EPG Technical Advisor, Dr G N Qasba, former SMC Commissioner, Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo, Chairman of NLCO, Shakeel Qalandar, former FCIK President, Gowhar Maqbool, Vice Chairman of KHARA-KHAROF, Suhail Jan, Chairman of Greenland Foundation, Dr M M Shuja, RTI Activist & EPG Co-Convenor, along with other notable figures such as Abdul Rashid Bhat, documentary maker and environmental campaigner, Reyan Sofi, noted bird watcher, photographer, and Green Citizens Council Member, as well as Tariq Patloo and Ghulam Rasool Akhoon, environmental activists, and Jannat, Dal Lake activist. Additionally, various council members, educationists, advocates, and representatives from different organisations also attended the event.

The students from schools drawn from various Districts who made impressive presentations about the need for conservation of natural resources in order to leave a better environment for future generations included: Govt Boys Higher Secondary School Beerwah; Valley Public School Sopore; Vision School of Education Hawal; Sunshine Public School Rainawari; Blue Bells School Khanyar; GreenLand Institute of Paramedical & Nursing; Green Land Group of Institutions; GreenLand Foundation; Bilaliya Educational Institute; Satisar Education Institute Pampore .

The Chief Guest impressed upon the students to take keen interest in the conservation of natural resources blessed in abundance but facing threat due to greed and mismanagement.

The speakers and students were later felicitated by the Chief Guest Zareef Ahmad Zareef, Convenor EPG Faiz Bakshi and other EPG Members.

A Resolution proposed by Dr Raja Muzaffar Bhat for segregating kitchen waste, composting the same and stopping use of polythene was adopted at the Event.
