Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, said that the rains are expected to end the prevailing hot and dry weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir.

However, he said that no major relief is expected in the plains of Jammu, and despite the possibility of light rains, the maximum temperature would continue to settle around 40 degrees Celsius.

He added that with the possibility of gusty winds, the plains as well as the higher reaches of Kashmir would receive light rains, and stated that the higher reaches of Jammu will also receive rainfall from tomorrow afternoon.

“The wet spell is expected to continue from June 04 to June 08, while the hot and dry weather conditions are expected to return from June 09 to June 13,” he said.

Pertinently, the hot and dry weather conditions have continued for the last several weeks, with Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir recording record-breaking maximum temperatures.
