Police Seize Huge Drug Consignment in South Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday reported the recovery of a substantial consignment of drugs in Kulgam and the arrest of three drug peddlers in Sopore.

“Acting swiftly on specific information about the hoarding of a large quantity of narcotic substances, a police team led by IC PP Frisal, under the supervision of DySP PC Hatipora, raided the suspected location (Band Saw Mill) at Kaladrund in the presence of an executive magistrate. During a thorough search, 209.7 kg of poppy straw-like contraband, filled in 12 nylon bags, was recovered. However, the owner managed to flee upon noticing the police team,” a police spokesman stated.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the mill owner, identified as Ghulam Nabi Kuttay, son of Abdul Aziz Kuttay, resident of Kaladrund, was distributing the contraband to the youth in nearby areas, contributing to drug addiction. Efforts to apprehend him are ongoing, police said.

Meanwhile, in Sopore, a police team from Police Post Bus Stand intercepted a three-wheeler passenger auto, at a checkpoint in Model Town. “The three occupants were identified as Waseem Ahmad Naikoo, son of Mohammad Rajab Naikoo, resident of Nowpora Kalan Sopore; Manzoor Ahmad Nadroo, also known as Goja, son of Abdul Aziz Nadroo, resident of Shair Colony Sopore; and Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Shaban Dar, resident of Shair Colony Sopore. During the search, officers recovered 3.5 kg of poppy straw from their possession,” police reported.

Regarding these incidents, police have registered cases under relevant sections of law at the respective police stations and initiated investigations.
