Srinagar Records 33.2°C, Jammu Sizzles at 42.7°C

   

SRINAGAR: Day temperatures have risen across Jammu and Kashmir, with the twin stations of Jammu division, including the winter capital of the Union Territory, Jammu, and Katra, experiencing a heat wave on Wednesday.

The weatherman predicts generally dry weather conditions till June 27, along with hot and humid weather over many places in JK for the next two days.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a maximum temperature of 33.2°C, while most places across the Union Territory also recorded temperatures above 30°C.

Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir, recorded a maximum temperature of 31.0°C, while Pahalgam, a famous tourist destination, saw temperatures settle at 28.0°C. Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded 31.7°C, while Kokernag and Gulmarg, a famous ski resort, recorded 30.7°C and 18.5°C, respectively.

Jammu station, however, experienced a heat wave, with the mercury reaching 42.7°C. Katra station also recorded a heat wave, with the temperature settling at 39.4°C.

Other stations recorded normal temperatures today, with Banihal at 32.4°C, Batote at 30.8°C, and Bhaderwah at 32.8°C.

Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, predicted generally dry weather conditions in JK until June 27, with a possibility of brief spells of rain and thundershowers at a few places towards the late afternoon or evening during this period.

From June 28 to June 30, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy, with light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many places. From July 1-4, partly to generally cloudy weather is expected, with intermittent spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers at many locations.

The MeT has forecasted hot and humid weather over many places in J&K for the next two days. (KNO)
