SRINAGAR: A massive forest fire broke out in the forests of Nagras Qazigund in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday.
An official said that a significant fire ignited this afternoon and swiftly engulfed the entire forested area in Nagras village of Qazigund.
He said that efforts are underway to bring the forest fire under control by using the latest techniques.
Earlier, the JK DMA has issued a warning regarding the high risk of forest fires expected to occur over woodland areas in the next seven days. “Individuals are urged to report any incidents promptly by dialing 112 for immediate assistance,” it said.
Notably, Jammu and Kashmir has been gripped by a heatwave for the past week, with the meteorological department predicting similar conditions until the end of this month.
