This advisory includes a comprehensive set of recommendations to assist farmers in effectively managing this pest.

The key recommendations provided by SKUAST-Kashmir for the management of ALBM are as follows:

Installation of Sticky Traps: Farmers are advised to install sticky traps at intervals of 10 meters within their orchards. These traps are essential for monitoring and surveillance of ALBM, helping to keep track of pest populations and activity levels.

Sanitation Practices: Implementing proper sanitation practices within and around the orchards is crucial. This includes the removal of fallen leaves and debris, which can harbour ALBM larvae and adults.

Pheromone Baited Traps: To effectively lure and capture ALBM, farmers should install pheromone baited traps at a density of 8-10 traps per hectare. These traps are specifically designed to attract the pests, thereby reducing their numbers.

Insecticide Spraying: The advisory recommends the use of specific insecticides, ensuring they are applied at the recommended dosage. The suggested insecticides include:

Thiamethoxam 25 WG (50g per 100 litres of water)

Flubendiamide 39.35 SC (40ml per 100 liters of water)

Chlorantraniliprole 18.5SC (100ml per 100 liters of water)

Thiacloprid 21.7 SC (60ml per 100 litres of water)

Lambda Cyhalothrin 5 EC (50ml per 100 liters of water)

Pre-mix formulation of Thiamethoxam 12.6 + Lambda Cyhalothrin 9.5 ZC (50ml per 100 liters of water)

Pre-mix formulation of Imidacloprid 6 + Lambda Cyhalothrin 4 SL (50ml per 100 liters of water)

Farmers are urged to strictly adhere to the recommended dosages and to refrain from mixing these insecticides with any other plant protection chemicals or plant nutrients to avoid adverse reactions or reduced effectiveness.

The issuance of this advisory highlights the increasing threat posed by ALBM to the region’s apple orchards and underscores the importance of timely and coordinated management efforts. SKUAST-Kashmir remains committed to supporting local farmers with the latest research and practical solutions to safeguard their crops and ensure sustainable agricultural practices.

Farmers are encouraged to follow these guidelines closely and to contact their local agricultural extension services for further assistance and information.
