At 34.8°C, Ganderbal Records Kashmir’s Hottest Day

   

SRINAGAR: The mercury soared to an unprecedented 34.8°C in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Sunday, marking the hottest day of the season in the Kashmir valley for the month of May.

This extreme heatwave is part of a broader trend affecting the entire Jammu and Kashmir region. According to a meteorological department official, Ganderbal recorded the highest temperature at 34.8°C, followed closely by Qazigund at 33.5°C. Other districts also reported unusually high temperatures, indicating a widespread heatwave:

Temperatures soared across the Kashmir valley, with Ganderbal experiencing the highest at 34.8°C, making it the hottest day of the season in May. Qazigund followed with 33.5°C, while Srinagar City, Bandipora, and Shopian each recorded 32.7°C.

Anantnag and Pulwama both saw 32.6°C, and Budgam reached 31.3°C. Baramulla and Kokernag recorded slightly lower temperatures at 30.9°C and 31.5°C, respectively. Meanwhile, Jammu sweltered under a scorching 42.5°C, highlighting the widespread impact of the heatwave across Jammu and Kashmir.

The heatwave has intensified across the region, including parts of Jammu, which recorded a scorching 42.5°C. The Kashmir valley, typically known for its milder climate, is experiencing an unusual surge in temperatures, with the heatwave showing no signs of abating.

The meteorological department has predicted more hot and dry weather conditions for the next week, warning residents to prepare for continued high temperatures.
