Dry Spell, Heat Wave to Continue in Jammu and Kashmir Till May 31: MeT

   

SRINAGAR: The weather department in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday ruled out any significant weather activity till the end of the month while predicting a heat wave to continue for the next four days.

A meteorological department official said that generally dry weather is expected until 28 May, though the possibility of isolated thundershower activity cannot be ruled out.

From 29-31 May, partly to generally cloudy weather is expected, with light rain or thundershowers at isolated places in the afternoon. “Overall, no significant weather activity is expected till 31 May,” he said, adding, “The heat wave over the plains of the Jammu Division and hot and dry weather over the Kashmir Division and hilly districts of the Jammu Division are likely to continue for the next four days.”

The weather office has urged people to avoid heat exposure and advised them to drink plenty of fluids and water.

Meanwhile, night temperatures have continued to stay above normal, with Srinagar recording a low of 13.8°C, down from 15.4°C the previous night, but still 2.1°C above normal for this time of year.

Qazigund recorded a minimum of 10.4°C, down from 12.0°C the previous night, 0.1°C above normal for the gateway town of Kashmir. Pahalgam recorded a low of 7.3°C, down from 8.5°C, 1.1°C above normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.

Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a minimum of 11.1°C, down from 13.0°C, 1.0°C above normal. Kupwara town recorded a minimum of 11.3°C, down from 12.0°C, 0.9°C above normal.

Gulmarg recorded a minimum of 9.0°C, down from 11.8°C, 2.2°C above normal for the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Jammu recorded a low of 22.4°C, down from 27.6°C the previous night, 2.0°C below normal for the winter capital of J&K. Banihal recorded a low of 13.4°C, Batote 16.7°C, and Bhaderwah 14.6°C. (GNS)
