Historic First FIRs Registered Under Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita in Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: In a historic move marking the dawn of a new era in the justice delivery system within Kashmir, the Jammu & Kashmir Police have registered the first FIRs under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS). Revealing the information, a police spokesman said this significant event underscores the beginning of a transformative phase for law enforcement and the judicial framework in the region.

The first FIR in Kashmir Zone, No 143/2024, was registered under Sections 125(a) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita 2023 at Police Station Bijbehara. In Srinagar district, Police Station Chanapora registered FIR No 22/2024 under Sections 303 BNS and 135(1) of the Electricity Act.

In Baramulla, the initial case was recorded as FIR No 93/2024 under Sections 303(2) and 329(3) BNS at Police Station Kreeri. Meanwhile, Police District Sopore saw its first case, FIR No 25/2024, filed under Sections 223, 303(ii), and 326A of the BNS at Police Station Panzla. Kulgam Police registered FIR No. 47/2024 under Sections 74 and 115(2) BNS at Police Station Yaripora.

This landmark development sets a vital precedent for the implementation of the new criminal law framework and highlights the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s commitment to swift and decisive action in upholding the law.
