According to a statement by a police spokesman , a joint cordon and search operation was launched in Nihama village on the night of June 2-3, based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of two militants, Reyaz Ah Dar and Rayees Ah Dar.

“During the operation, two militants engaged in gunfire with the security forces, leading to their neutralisation. The deceased, identified as LeT commander Reyaz Dar and his associate Rayees Dar, were both category A militants,” it reads.

In addition to their neutralisation, a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including AK-47 rifles, AK-47 rounds, pistols, and other incriminating materials, were seized during the search. “A case was registered under FIR number 20/24, including sections 307 IPC, 7/27 Arms Act, and 16, 18, 19, 20, 38 UAPA, at PS Kakapora.”

Further investigation revealed the involvement of three OGWs – Bilal Ahmed Lone, Sajjad Ganie, and Shakir Bashir – who provided support, shelter, and logistics to the militants. All three were arrested.

“It was discovered that the two slain terrorists had prepared the IEDs recovered from Shakir Bashir’s possession. The IEDs, weighing approximately 6kg, were destroyed in situ by Pulwama police and the army. Further investigation into the case is ongoing,” it added.
