In June, Jammu Kashmir Reports 23 Militancy-Related Deaths

   

SRINAGAR: This year the month of June witnessed the highest number of casualties in different militancy-related incidents in Jammu and Kashmir. Twenty-three persons including 11 militants, 11 civilians, and a trooper were killed in both divisions of the erstwhile state.

The month of March had witnessed the sole killing of an army porter Rajesh Kumar who was killed in a landmine explosion in the Nowshera Sector of Rajouri while in February in a solitary incident of militancy, two non-local men from Punjab- Amritpal Singh and Rohit Mashi were shot dead by militants in the downtown area of Srinagar.

The data reveals that there was a surge in militancy-related incidents in June.

Six encounters raged between the joint forces and militants in Kashmir and Jammu region while militants carried out three attacks on joint forces.

Three local militants were killed in Nehama Pulwama and Aragam Bandipora encounters while two unidentified LeT militants were neutralized in Hadipora Sopore encounter.

An infiltrator was killed in the Uri Sector of Baramulla while 7 non-local militants including two in Hadipora Sopore were killed in different encounters.

Two militants were killed in Saida Sukhal village in Hiranagar Kathua after they fired upon civilians injuring one. A CRPF man Kabir Das was also killed in the gunfight.

Militants fired on a joint checkpost of the 4 Rashtriya Rifles and police in the Chatergala area of the Doda district injuring 5 soldiers and one SPO. A cop Fardeen Ahmed was injured in Kota Top, Dandoh Doda encounter. Three militants were killed in the Bajad forest area of Gandoh Doda.

At least 10 pilgrims from UP and Rajasthan were killed and over 20 injured after suspected militants fired upon a bus on the way to Katra from Shiv Khori Ramsou in the Pouni area of the Reasi district of Jammu.

In the second week of June, a 28-year-old worker from Akhnor, identified as Vasudev was killed in a ‘mistaken identity’ incident by BSF near Regal Chowk along the international border in Samba. (KNT)
