Kashmiri, Dogri Classes Likely To Be Offered in Three Delhi Universities

SRINAGAR: A special academy is being established to offer language classes in Kashmiri and Dogri at Delhi University, Ambedkar University Delhi, and Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) in New Delhi, The Indian Express reported.

The move aims to assist the propagation and preservation of the languages and culture of Jammu and Kashmir after JK’s diaspora, which is primarily made up of displaced migrants, settled in New Delhi.

The Delhi Development Authority, has already issued orders to identify a suitable location to set up a Kashmiri-Dogri Academy, the report adds.

Quoting an official, The Indian Express reported that the L-G VK Saxena has chaired two meetings related to the subject so far. The Arts, Culture and Languages (ACL) Department, the Education Department, and the universities in Delhi will play a pivotal role.

“While the cultural academy for J&K will be ready in six months, Delhi University, GGSIPU, and Ambedkar University Delhi have been tasked with teaching Kashmiri and Dogri languages; the modalities regarding this are being worked out. After it is established, the J&K academy will share its manpower and expertise with the universities to impart linguistic and cultural knowledge to students,” the official said.

The L-G had also discussed the matter with Lieutenant Governor JK  Manoj Sinha, who had assured him manpower in the form of teachers and linguistic experts as well as study material.
