SRINAGAR: The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, and Lt Governor Ladakh, B D Mishra (Retd), unveiled the Logo and Mascot for the Khelo India Winter Games 2024 on Tuesday.
During the event, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha congratulated the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, and extended his best wishes to the players, officials, and members of organizing committees.
He stated that the Khelo India Winter Games celebrate sporting excellence, courage, and character against the backdrop of the stunning snow mountains, making it a remarkable sporting spectacle for JK UT.
Furthermore, he highlighted that the Snow Leopard, chosen as the Mascot for the Winter Games, symbolizes the natural heritage of the Himalayas and reflects the government’s commitment to wildlife protection and preservation.
“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the UT of JK has become a preferred destination for winter sports. The sporting community, organizers, and fans eagerly anticipate hosting athletes from across the country,” the Lt Governor noted.
In the 4th edition of Winter Games, snow skating, ice hockey, and curling have been relocated to UT of Ladakh, while other sporting events will take place at the world-famous ski resort, Gulmarg.
The launch ceremony was attended by Sujata Chaturvedi, Secretary Sports, Government of India; Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to Lt Governor; Atal Dulloo, Chief Secretary; Yasha Mudgul, Commissioner/Secretary, Tourism; Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary Youth Services & Sports J&K, along with officials and members of the organizing committee.
