In order to alleviate the sufferings of cancer patients and to take the patient care at public door steps, department of pain and palliative care provides free home care facility for terminally ill cancer patients.

The spokesman said that Dr Fir Afroz Professor Radiation Oncology &  HOD Pain & Palliative Care  while giving details said home care facility was started in 2015 and has been fully appreciated since its inception.

This facilities provided for two days a week. The department also provides pain management,day care facility, free pharmacy for poor and needy cancer patients besides financial help through differentcentrally & State sponsored programmes. In addition department through various NGO’S such as JivDaya foundation (USA), cancer society of Kashmir (CSK), Indian cancer society Mumbai (ICS), Vcare foundation Mumbai, Cankids, leukemia crusaders (Delhi), alsoprovide treatment support and other medical and logisticsupport to poor patientsandthousands of patients have been benefitted  from this initiative, she added.

Director SKIMS Dr Omar Javed Shah hailed department for this sustained  initiative which is benefitting poor patients. He said the support is also extended to patientswith kidney and cardiac aliments and the Pain &Pallaitive Care department  through various organisations provide  logistic support to poor patients in the form of drugs, artificial  limbs, eye prosthesis, Air mattresses,Domiciliary oxygen, Nebulizers, oxygen concentrators and cylinders etc. which is appreciable as thousands of terminally sick patients are benefitted.  He further added that currently the home care facility is limited to  district Srinagar only and will be extended  to other districts also in order to provide palliation to patients at their door steps.
