SRINAGAR: In a bid to embrace digital transformation and enhance efficiency in administrative processes, the Jammu and Kashmir government has issued a directive mandating the use of digital signatures for all official correspondence within its administrative machinery.

Effective from June 1, 2024, all Administrative Departments, Heads of Departments, Deputy Commissioners, and Managing Directors of various Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), Boards, and Corporations are required to ensure that officers and officials utilize Digital Signature Certificates (DSC) or Aadhaar-based e-signatures (e-Hastakhshars) for signing notes in the e-office system.

This directive follows the guidelines set forth by the Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances, Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Government of India, which emphasized the necessity of adopting digital signatures for electronically signing e-files in the e-office system.

The move aims to streamline operations, reduce dependence on physical documents, bolster cybersecurity measures, and prevent unauthorized access to government files in the digital sphere.

It aligns with the broader national agenda of promoting e-governance and leveraging technology for efficient service delivery.

To facilitate the smooth implementation of this mandate, the local e-office support team of JaKeGA (Jammu and Kashmir e-Governance Agency) and the Information Technology Department will provide necessary assistance and support.

Also, users are urged to familiarize themselves with the implementation guidelines available on the official e-office documentation portal or the handbook issued by JaKeGA.

By embracing digital signatures and transitioning to a paperless workflow, the Jammu and Kashmir government as per the order aims to usher in a new era of efficiency, transparency, and security in its administrative operations.
