SRINAGAR: Night temperatures saw a slight increase amid cloud cover but continued to stay below normal in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday.
A meteorological department official in Srinagar said that the city recorded a low of 7.8°C, compared to 5.7°C the previous night, marking a deviation of 1.9°C below normal for this time of year in the summer capital of JK.
Qazigund recorded a minimum temperature of 6.2°C, up from 3.6°C the previous night, with a deviation of 2.3°C below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir.
Pahalgam recorded a low of 1.7°C, slightly higher than the previous night’s 1.0°C, but still 3.2°C below normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.
Similarly, Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, saw a minimum temperature of 5.9°C, compared to 4.4°C, showing a deviation of 2.5°C below normal.
Kupwara town recorded a minimum of 4.8°C, slightly below the previous night’s 4.7°C, with a deviation of 3.6°C below normal, according to the official.
Gulmarg recorded a minimum temperature of 4.0°C, an increase from the previous night’s minus 0.2°C, but still below normal by 0.3°C for the world-famous skiing resort in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
In Jammu, the official said, the city recorded a low of 17.6°C, compared to 15.7°C the previous night, indicating a deviation of 5.0°C below normal for the winter capital of J&K. Banihal recorded a low of 8.0°C, Batote 9.5°C, and Bhaderwah 6.1°C, he added.
As for the forecast, he said, partly to generally cloudy weather with light rain and thunder is expected at scattered places towards the evening until May 4.
On May 5, he said, generally dry weather with afternoon thundershower activity is likely at isolated places.
